The company first materialized in 1994 from out of a small apartment in the Mission District in San Francisco, California. Originally, we produced hand-made paper, blank books (journals, sketch books, etc.), and made-to-order theme books. We never made any money and most of our books and papers were given as gifts to our friends or used as barter for other goodies. Eventually, Barking Dog Books evolved into its current incarnation--a techno-cottage industry that now includes bookmaking, recycle art, desktop publishing & word processing, and Web design. Our Mission Barking Dog Books is ever evolving. Our main focus is desktop publishing, and, more specifically, Web design and cyber graphics. In order to hone our skills as Web site designers, as well as provide service to the community, we offer our services free of charge to non-profit organizations that would like to have the benefit of the Internet exposure they might not otherwise be able to afford. The organization pays only the domain name registration fee to establish and register their domain name (initially, about $75 for two years, and $35 annually thereafter), and what ever the Web hosting fee, generally $25 a month. Barking Dog donates the labor to get it up and running. Now, that's next to nothing!
